A young woman sitting at a wooden table in a coffee shop, holding an open book and smiling, with a cup of coffee in front of her.

I am Abhaya. A reader, a writer, and the quietest person in most rooms.

I notice everything. I say very little. I write it all down instead.

By day I manage teams and navigate corporate life. By every other hour I am annotating books, underlining sentences, and writing essays that arrive in one sitting because that is the only way my brain knows how to work.

I read across everything, fiction, memoir, medicine, psychology, history. My bookshelf is equal parts autobiography and library. I started The Understorey because I needed somewhere to put the things that don't fit anywhere else.

I am in the middle of a deliberate transition from a decade in corporate life toward the world of books and publishing. Every essay I write, every book I review, every thing I notice is evidence of the mind I am bringing to that world.

The Understorey is not just a creative space. It is the first chapter of what comes next

This is that place.

Based in Bangalore. Deeply Marathi. Perpetually overthinking.
